Vista network map

Post by jigarbov »

as far as i know all you need to do to get qnap to appear on the vista network map is to support the LLTD protocol.

would this be hard to implement? i have a TS-201 and it would be sweet if i could see it on there :)

Haha yes this would add some nice "bells and whistles" to the qnap, but far from a necessary feature.

It sounds very much like Cisco's CDP - Cisco Discovery Protocol. Cisco use that for IP phones to signal QoS requirements, and various other uses.

From reading about it on Microsoft's website, LLTD might actually have real-world benefits if it can signal QoS requirements over the link layer for multimedia streaming. http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/rally/LLTD-spec.mspx

Perhaps not so important over Gigabit Ethernet (which has plenty of bandwidth and low latency), but would be beneficial in a wifi enviroment - especially for streaming HD media streams. I guess only if the qnap developers are left twiddling their thumbs out of boredom would this get looked at :)
