Hello,
last week I orderd a TS-219P and two WD 15EADS drives
While I was reading on this forum (and the dutch one) I noticed
there are many threads about de Western Digital hard drives.
Is the problem with the load/unload witch results in a extremly high Load Cycle Count still an issue??
is it solved with the latest firmware??
is it a real problem?
If not I can tray to cancel or switch the two drives
(any suggestions on witch hard drive is best (low power concumption, noise, ...
It's just for home use : central storage and backup for photographs, music, documents, ...
many thanks in advance

Re: TS-219P with WD15EADS
I've been running a TS-119P equipped with a WD15EADS for a couple of months without any trouble. But the disk is always spinning since I'ts seeding torrents.

Re: TS-219P with WD15EADS
Hi thankx for the information
In my situation it won't be used for torrents
The NAS wil be running from 5pm until 11pm on workingdays
and in the weekend during the day.
There 're 3pc's but most of the time the NAS wil be waiting
(hopefully in stand by modus)

Re: TS-219P with WD15EADS
I am running a TS-219P with two WD15EADS in Raid1 since about a month.
It is on 24/7, but I would guess that the system is mostly idle. Every once in while, I am streaming Music and Videos for an hour or two; occasionally I download a torrent (btw. latest openSUSE11.2 rocks! ); I have the web-server enabled for our private family photos (only few people have access) and otherwise run unscheduled backups via unison and ftp for two laptops every 2-4 days.
Here is the SMART info:
Disk1:
PowerOnHours: 629
Power_Cycle_Count: 25
Load_Cycle_Count: 3674
Disk2:
PowerOnHours: 441
Power_Cycle_Count: 31
Load_Cycle_Count: 2847
The values differ since I did not run Raid1 in the first week or so.
For some people on this forum, the load cycle issue is the end of the world, while other are not concerned at all. It's hard to judge without good technical knowledge.
All I can say is, that the WD15EADS drives stay really cool and hence the QNAP box stays silent (it located in my office room). I am currently backing up our digital home videos, and Qnap reads drive temperatures of 37C and 35C for drive 1 and 2 and 41C for the box itself. This is pretty good. I have not measured the power consumption yet, but given those temperatures, it cannot be that bad.

Re: TS-219P with WD15EADS
I'm happy to hear somebody who's satisfied with the TS_219P an WD hard drives
(mostly on the forum you can read about what's not working well)
In the meanwhile I recieved everthing yesterday (so it was a short night )
and so for nothing but good things
After unpacking the NAS (witch is really good protected during transport)
installed the two hard drives and followed the quick installation guide
20minutes later everthing was working
(with default settings and no extras installed off course)
CONGRATULATIONS for QNAP making things so easy
Now I'm trying to find my way in the "administration" and all the different settings and possibility's
is it possible to make a "short cut" for every user (3 pc's and 5 users) on every PC
so the get (with different password) an extra "network shared folder" from the NAS
Are maybe there are better solutions

Hi fonsdespons,
is it possible to make a "short cut" fo ... om the NAS
You can configure share folders for different users to access. Then in each Windows PC, you can "map network driver" and when any user wants to connect to a specific share, there'll be a prompt for a user name and password (if disabling guest access).
