FTP Log
Hello. I´m quite surprised that my ts 109 offers no ftp log. Is there any possibility to switch the log on ? I know that qnap uses proftpd witch natively have a very good loggin facilty. Greets Andi

We are currently designing a comprehensive enhanced log system. FTP log will be included in the new enhancement, the target release schedule is in Q4 this year.
Thanks for your feedback.
Best regards,
Ivan
I´m very dissapointed to hear NOW that you have it in the "Roadmap 2008".
One of the main feature to buy a NAS Server was to have a complette FTP Server. In my opinion is the FTP Server from TS109 actually just a Toy !

I'm almost never mean to people, but why did'nt you check what the Qnap NAS can do BEFORE you buy it?trancerffm wrote:Hi!QNAPIvan wrote:Dear trancerffm

And did you actually bought it to be just a FTP server?
And remember, Qnap NAS runs on Linux, so just learn that, and you can do whatever you want with the NAS.

Hi, all:
Thanks for valuable input. (And also thanks for pushing, it helps).
The log system for FTP, also for other protocol is designed and will be applied to TS-109 and TS-209 by future firmware update.
But sorry that I need to ask you to wait for a while.
Appreciate for all the great ideas and inputs.
Cheers,

A car can't run without wheels, but the NAS can run without FTP logging. If the most important thing for me is FTP server, I would make sure it supports everything I wanted before I bought it. But maybe that's just me....christian wrote:jesper1889 wrote:I'm almost never mean to people, but why did'nt you check what the Qnap NAS can do BEFORE you buy it?trancerffm wrote:Hi!QNAPIvan wrote:Dear trancerffm

Just for your notice : Bevor i buy the NAS Server i ask Qnap about that feature. Believe me - it is an very imported feature for me. So Qnap told me that the ftp log will come very soon in a new Firmware.jesper1889 wrote:

Log system also for TS-201??
Will this be included also in a near future firmware upgrade for the TS-201? I really miss this feature.QNAPIvan wrote:Hi, all:

For the "Qnap hackers" a raw logging feature can easily be created:
Change the following line in /etc/config/proftpd.conf:
add the following lines below "TransferLog" :
After this create the ftplogs directory:
Issue the command to reread the config file:
And you are done, the ftplogs will appear in your webserver ftplogs directory, like:
http://yourqnap/ftplogs/xferlog
and
http://yourqnap/ftplogs/bytes
Change the following line in /etc/config/proftpd.conf:
Code: Select all
TransferLog NONE
to
TransferLog /share/MD0_DATA/Qweb/ftplogs/xferlog
Code: Select all
LogFormat userlog "%u %b"
ExtendedLog /share/MD0_DATA/Qweb/ftplogs/bytes WRITE,READ userlog
Code: Select all
mkdir /share/MD0_DATA/Qweb/ftplogs
Code: Select all
/etc/init.d/ftp.sh reconfig
http://yourqnap/ftplogs/xferlog
and
http://yourqnap/ftplogs/bytes

Excellent tip, thanks!tschi wrote:For the "Qnap hackers" a raw logging feature can easily be created:
Curiously, it all appeared to work just fine, but the files "xferlog" and "bytes" remain 0 byte files, even after logging into ftp, performing a series of transactions (copy, change dir, etc etc), and then logging out.
