Migrating from TS-201 to TS-209Pro

Post by mr2_93 »

* I initially posted this topic in a different/wrong section. *

Hi all,

I wonder what's the best way to migrate the entire content of a TS-201 to TS-209Pro (I just bought a new TS-209Pro).

The Remote Replication does not seem to work. I keep getting the error: "Remote destination path does not exist". Can someone point me to the right direction? I have already upgrade both devices to its respective lastest firmware.

Even if it works, I think I have to setup to backup each Network Share individually. Is there a better way to sync the entire NAS?

Also, if it is possible to take one of the mirrored drives from the TS-201 and install it into the TS-209Pro. (I was told this would not work. Can someone confirm this as well?)

I think QNAP should provide a easy way for user to migrate their data from the older models to the new ones.

Thanks!
Werner

@mr2_93

I can this all confirm.
I have a TS-201 and a TS-209pro (with raid 1 and all SAMSUNG HD501LJ )

At "Remote Replication" I get also
"Remote destination path does not exist"

Using a hard drive from TS-201 in a TS-209pro:
I tried it - but didn't work - the structure on disk isn't the same
(checked this with Acronis True Image)
The TS-209pro shows for a TS-201 drive "not initialized/formatted".

So I transfered my files from TS-201 via LAN to the TS-209pro.
But you can do "Remote Replication" from the TS-209pro to the TS-201 without problems.

@Werner
Yes, I was able to remote-replicate from TS-209Pro to TS-201. However, the whole point is we need to do remote-replicate from the *old* TS-201 to the *new* TS-209Pro.

I hope to avoid network-copying and I do not want to re-create all shares & user accounts.

@QNAP, are you going to help us loyal customers? I have recommended your products to at least 5 different clients!!!! I personally bought a TS-209Pro for my own use.

Thanks!

1. For the security reason, we made some change in the remote-replication
If you use TS-201 with old version, then you can't do remote-replication from TS-201 to TS-209.
Please let us know the version of your NAS or just update the latest version of your TS-201.

2. About the EASY migration from TS-201 to TS-209, we think that it is a good idea.
We will consider it in future

The TS-201 is already running the latest firmware (2.1.0 2007/06/15). What about hardware version? Does it matter?

I need to get the remote-replication working asap!!!! Please help. It was the whole point to get the TS-209Pro. It seems to me this function doesn't work as advertised.

Thanks.

Same issue

Post by rdemann »

I also have the same issue. My 201 is running the latest official firmware as is my 209 Pro and I cannot get the 201 to remote replicate to the 209. Replicating the 209 Pro to the 201 works fine.

I need a solution as I really do not want to migrate the 201 to the 209 Pro

Thanks
Robert

Does anyone have new information on this topic?

Post by rdemann »

Hi,
I updated my 201 to U_TS-201_20070827-2.1.1.TELNET.img which I understand is a beta release. However no improvement with replicating to the 209 Pro. Appreciate feedback from anyone, who gets replicating the 201 to 209 Pro to work. If possible I would like to avoid a migration

Kind Regards
Robert
