hi bluemind,

you have to forward port 8080 and port 80 to your NAS then it works.

For me it was enough with port 8080 as I run another service on port 80.

when you enter an URL in a browser, the default port used is port 80. On QNAP, by default, port 80 is used by the QNAP web server for you to run your own personal website.

The admin application, including the Download Station, Web File Manager, etc are all running at port 8080 by default. To connect to these applications, you can do either:
1. put in port 8080 in the URL in your browser. Something like:
http://www.myqnap.com:8080/cgi-bin/Qdow ... dindex.cgi

2. while at home, login to the QNAP admin. First change the QNAP web server port from 80 to other unused port or just disable web server all together. Then change the admin port from 8080 to port 80. Once it's done, you won't have to type in port number in your URL any more.

I have encountered some problem with port 8080 (and only specifically with port 8080) at certain hotel for some reason. It's probably b/c port 8080 is handled differently by the hotel's proxy server in this particular case. Anytime you use a non-standard web port (port 80), there is a chance you might run into different issues from different ISP provider b/c the non-standard might be controlled/blocked by the ISP that is connecting you to the internet outside of your home.

If you want to really be sure you can always access your QNAP from any where, you might want to use port 80, or have your home webserver proxy the QNAP admin page behind the scenes.

For example, you can configure a webserver to forward the request to "http://homeserver/qnapadminpage" to "http://homeserver:8080" behind the scenes. You will need to learn about how to do the web server administration for the specific web server you are using to configure this.
