Switch to turn Front-Panel LED's on and out

Post by Deathstar »

Hi QNAP,

my NAS works so perfect now :) Big Thanks for this great product.

I'm planning to run the NAS 24/7 in my room, but I miss one thing. How about a little switch to turn on and off the front status LEDs?

A shell-command would also be as helpfull as a general feature.

Big thanks for that.

May I know why do you want to turn off the status LED?

I want to turn off EVERY LED:
power, status, network, hdd1, hdd2, usb

because they're pointing at my bed and so they disturb my sleep :)

Currently, there is no command to turn off ALL LED, because some LED is controled by hardware designed.
I suggest you to turn off your TS server when you sleep...and it is save power...and save money...

To turn off the Status LED only is the currrent spec definition of Sleep mode. Sorry if this doesn't match what you expect.

Just get yourself some black electrical insulation tape and stick it over the LED's .

So, how do you know it will look rubbish? There are really good quality tapes out there and you could do it under the fascia. Remove the front of the unit and put something underneath if the LEDs are bothering you that much.

the question should be, why you're arguing for a thing I never wanted to know.

Not arguing. I really would not give a monkey's what yo do with your kit, but you've questioned whether I was being serious.

Here is another serious idea:
Get yourself a piece of thick, preferably black paper, and slot it between the fascia and the LEDs.

If not ALL but there are some to turn off. Can you tell which one? And how (script based)?
