I am interested in getting the TS-401
http://www.qnap.com/pro_detail_feature.asp?p_id=68.
On some sites, e.g.
http://www.mediahome.co.uk/index.php?cP ... ed2dc5c4be
where this is sold it says that it can go up to 3TB storage, which kind of makes sense because 750GB drives have been around for a while, and 4 X 750GB=3TB. But on the disk compatability list for the TS-401, the disks allowed only go up to 500GB. What gives? Are 750GB drives likely to be supported soon (fiirmware upgrade) or is there a real, hard, limitation?
TS-401 and disk compatablity

Hi dokter,
The max volume size is 2TB due to the limitation of the maximum size of one single Logical Disk Volume on the system is 2TB and we suggest to install 4 x 500GB disk instead of 3 x 750GB disks (we do support 750GB disk) which you will end up wasting 250GB disk spaces. The disk arrangement above is recommended when performing RAID functions.
The ads you saw on the net could be having the disk arrangement like this: 4 x 1TB single disk and with 3 of them used for performing RAID 5 but having a total size of 2TB only. The 4th disk is then connected as a single disk. Therefore the system has an overall volume size of 3TB. This is only one of the possible arrangements you can have tho.
Thanks and hope this solved your pre-sale inquries
