[fixed] Very slow phpMyAdmin?

Post by James »

I turn on the WebServer and MySQL. Accessing http://<mynas>/phpMyAmin was possible but the page takes a long time to load - more than 30 secs.

I am connected to my NAS via a wireless network. Accessing NAS admin page is good and no lag.

Anyone had a similar feeling that accessing phpMyAdmin page is very slow?

I have the same problem, too. I tried both TCP and socket connection, both are slow. I noticed that SQL response time is not that slow, about 0.0x sec. for user table. Don't know why it got the bad end-to-end performance.

I am having the exact same problem with phpMyAdmin being super-slow while the everything else seems to be working fine. I'm connected to my nas by the wire.

I am also receiving some error at the bottom of the phpMyAdmin page about "unable to load mcrypt extentions", and I am having problems setting user access for some programming buddies of mine (I'm not sure if they have to have user accounts on the NAS as well for this to work).

Any similar experiences or advice would be appreciated :).

Hi Guys,

Just an alternative that you might wanna try if you only need the basics but do use it frequently.

PHPMiniAdmin

I use the windows MySQL GUI Tools via an SSH tunnel - nice and fast and looks nice as well!!

I have only tried MySQL Administrator and MySQL Query Browser on my QNAP TS-209.

I got them from http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/gui-tools/5.0.html

Hi lunchbox99,

nice one I tried it myself and it's strongly recommended for users who prefer GUI based MySQL administration.

Can you try to add / at the end? Is it better?

I installed MySQL administrator but failed to connect to my TS-109. I have enabled TCP/IP Networking for MySQL server under QNAP administration page. Is there any other setting required?

I connected MySQL Admin to the NAS via an ssh tunnel - routing local port 3306 to port 3306 on the NAS. I will check direct (ie non ssh) connection as soon as I can.

Thanks for your tips. I can connect to NAS via SSH now. I cannot get Direct Connection working.

I think I did try direct connection before settling on the ssh tunnel. I use Tunnelier on Windows or gstm (gnome ssh tunnel manager) on linux.

Could someone please explain how to connect via SSH tunnel and etc. Im new to this and have been using phpMyAdmin, but its very slow.

I have installed the MySQL GUI. I can connect to my NAS via PuttY.
But when i try to connect via MySQL gui i get:
"Lost connection to MySQL server during query"

when I use mysql gui, do I use the root/admin login?

Hi denya,

I think you are experiencing this problem because the default configuration of MySQL allow admin to connect from the 'localhost' only. I am little rusty on MySQL, but if I am remembering correctly you can allow remote access and setup different permission when you connect from locahost or remotely.

Please refer the MySQL documentation for more accurate information.
5.7.2. How the Privilege System Works
5.8. MySQL User Account Management

I hope that this info will help and get you up and running.
