Resetting to factory defaults

Post by jeerkahn »

How do you reset everything in a TS 209pro to the factory defaults. I've tried the reset button but it retained some information and now I am having a hard time getting the drives to reformat and show up correctly. I've updated with firmware 1.1.1 and want to roll back everything to just like it was out of the box

Any suggestions?

thanks

The reset button only doing:
1. reset password of admin user to "admin"
2. reset network setting to DHCP

If you want to reset to factory default, just go to "System tools"->"Backup/Restore/Reset settings" in administration page.
Then click reset button to reset to factory default.

Thank you Kent,

I did that and all of the default folders are now gone, (Qmultimedia, Qweb, Public etc.)

And after running the quick setup again, whenever I go into the User Management section I get a message that says

Warning
Your disk volume is being formatted or checked. Please wait for the completion of formatting or checking, or go to the SATA Disk page to initialize the disk.

I've let the TS-209 sit all night (9 Hours) and I'm still getting the same message.

Also when I look at the log files I'm getting this message every 30 seconds:

Warning Re-launch process [proftpd].

Did I do something wrong? All I'm trying to do is convert the linear disk set up that I had the 209 at before the disk failure to a RAID 1 with 2 disks.

Please read announcements first.

I would like to know
1. What is your disk configuration?
2. What is your server name?
I am Kent. Nice to meet you!

Warning

Your disk volume is being formatted or checked. Please wait for the completion of formatting or checking, or go to the SATA Disk page to initialize the disk.

Ivan, were you in the middle of normal operations when this error occurred or was it during setup? I ran into the same error and just rebooted the server and everything was fine. Obviously I wouldn't recommend this unless you have backups of your data.

yeps

Post by ivan101 »

yeps was doing nothing (except connecting via afp but then i got an error that i could not connect. so there it began for me. no i see light activity on the disks but once in a few minutes so its not doing something. i could try a restart from the webmenu.

i guess the data is already lost already

only that exclamation mark is the second time already (first time it was only the public folder (i lost all data also back then).
it should take away worries about securing my data but it aint so far.

maybe its better to return to firmware 1.1.0

Post by ivan101 »

hm i restarted and it looked at first everything was oke in the user and share management tool but after 10 seconds it got me the:

Warning
Your disk volume is being formatted or checked. Please wait for the completion of formatting or checking, or go to the SATA Disk page to initialize the disk.

again. so it took me to nowhere :-(

iwill let it run till tomorrowmorning (its 2.30 am here now). i hope its fixes itself, what i doubt.

Have you resolved this issue because I am about to try the same thing and I don't want to get stuck with a dead box.

After playing around and experimenting, I eventually pulled the drives, attached them to my XP system via a USB harness and removed all the partitions.

When re-installed, the TS209 Pro approached them as brand new drives, so setup launched as if I pulled the NAS out of the box for the first time.

It would be nice if they would post a Telnet or Winscp method of killing the partitions and forcing a restart, etc.

okay thx for your reply. I keep notice of it when it happens again. It should not may happen (because it is my only backup (on two mirrored drives). I hope it doesnt happen again but i should not be worrying about it :-(
