IP blacklisting / blocking

Post by Hugoface »

Hi!

IPs should get blocked, if there are more than X login attempts with wrong username / password to prevent brute force attacks.

Hugoface,

I have a question...

if the user is under NAT, when i block it's IP, it means all users under the NAT can't access my NAS. So what should the NAS block? IP or User account, or IP and user account ?

yes, that's an problem, I haven't thought of this...

I would need it for the ftp-server, which is the only service accessible from the internet and in my case there is a VERY low probability, that both a "bad" user and a "good" user use the same IP, so in my case I would prefer IP blocking...

I think Synology hats implemented such a feature for their NAS systems

Hi Hugoface,

As i know, QNAP TS-109/209 have IP filter function. it can allow and deny specific IP. but it effect on all service, once your are on ban list in ipfiler, then you can't connect to that NAS.

i suggest that QNAP can provide user to setting how many time error login in a period time. will it be too complex for normal user ?
