Maybe You should improve something like that into firmware. I got TS-101 and it work "AMAZING SLOW". All the time HDD is burning every 1kb writing on it... Thats really important thing!

I have an extension on that.

If you where to combine Silas' idea with the new function in Vista (ReadyBoost) you will have a great solution.

Imagine a USB pen drive as a cache storage for the hard drive(s)...
This way you will not use the NAS' RAM. And even the smallest pen drive should give a good performance boost.

smartdrv = diskcache

Sure i remember smartdrv, good old days ;)

if the QNAP doesn't have a diskcache, they should get one. But new disks today have a rather big diskcache already, so it should be optional.

at the moment smartdrv is not my problem :)
i do not have anymore ts-101... it was like dos without smartdrv

now i have ts-109 and it works like vista with readyboost :]
