cannot mount drives using afp

Post by Jeroen »

Hello,

I can't mount my networkshares anymore with afp. With ftp or smb I see all the shares, but with afp I only see 'public'.
Any suggestions?

Hi Jeroen

Have you try restart your NAS and reconnect it again?
If it's not working could you try to diable the Apple Talk and enable it again?

Would like to know after you try these does it happen again?

Hi

I have the same issue with a new TS-109 Pro, although unlike Jereon I have never been able to mount as afp (other than Public).

I can connect to Private network shares using SMB.

With afp I can connect as Guest and see Public, but if I try to connect as registered user than I get the OS X error message:
"Connection failed. Unknown user, incorrect password, or login is disabled. Please retype the name and password or contact the server's administrator"

My device set up as in sig.

Any advice much appreciated.

When you use administrator to login, then what happened?
And the OS you used is PPC or Intel?

Hello!
When I log-in as administrator (using afp) I see all the shares! :D fantastico!
That's strange... In usermanagement I can see that 'jeroen' is a member of 'Administrators', but with 'jeroen' I can't login to the shares.

But thanks, this will do

edit: using a Macbook Pro (intel)

Hi Mate

Good to hear that everything is working fine there.

I will personally keep this issue on my daily usage (Cause I use MacBook and QNAP NAS all the day).
To see if there's any place that we could improve.

Thanks for sharing the information with us.

Cheers

I got the same problem. I can only access Public when using afp, all the other shares are mysteriusly gone.

Model name: TS-109
Firmware version: 1.1.2
Operation System: OSX 10.4.10

Restarting appletalk didn't help, neither did restarting the hardware.
I also tried to logon with the admin account, but with no success, still only got "Public"

it´s a litte off-topic,
but isn´t smb much faster than afp due to protocol overhead?
I thought afp is some kind of relict from times of os9 and before...
just my 5 cents
QNAP TS-209 (yes, still running),
QNAP TS-251+

Jonas, using OS X it's very similar. You can either browse your network and the TS should show up under the NAS workgroup (or a different workgroup name if you've changed the network settings).

Or, in the Finder choose Go>Connect to Server. Then instead of typing (for example) afp://169.254.100.100 you would type smb://169.254.100.100

Then you get the list of shares, pick one and you can then authenticate (the dialogue boxes are slightly different to the ones you see when connecting via afp).

This is working fine for me, and is the only way I can connect properly until this bug is fixed.

Hope this helps.
