10GE NIC in TVS-1282

Post by jon.S »

Hi,

Would like a bit of advise on buying a 10Gb nic for my TVS-1282 to move it onto my core switch. The following compatibility page:
https://www.qnap.com/en/compatibility/? ... ategory=11

lists:
Mellanox MCX311A-XCCT Dual port 10 Gigabit network adapter , SFP+ direct attach copper cable

When i look this up on the mellanox site it comes out as a single port, not a duel port:
https://www.mellanoxstore.com/products/ ... 0wodX6cBCA

I do see a MCX312a-XCBT nic that has a duel port:
https://www.mellanoxstore.com/products/ ... GwodxSoMrg

Would both of these cards be compatible with the TVS-1282.

Thanks for any help provided.

Jon.

I used this Intel card in my TVS-882 and it works fantastic, combined with Intel 10Gb GBICs.

Combined with these GBICs...

Just an FYI, I tried this card (the Intel server adapter mentioned above) in my TVS-1282 and it did not work. The system complained about not initialing the adapter (5+6) even though it detected that they are network adapters. Inserting SFP+ transceivers would not light up the fiber. The card was fine, it came from an old server in which it worked, and still does when i put it back.

I have since got a QNAP MLX 10Gb adapter that works fine.

I am running QNAP 4.3 so not sure if this makes a difference.

Thanks for the info. I have the same QNap but I find this slightly confusing: I was under the impression that the TVS-1282 had built-in stuff to make it easy to add 10GE - and that Mellanox card would be good since it's cheap and cheerful ($85 on the manufacturer's website). But how does it work? Is that the only thing needed?
The card you got looks like a full 10GE card, whereas the Mellanox looks like a simple adaptor. What is right?

All these 10 GbE interfaces/adaptors are PCIe gen 2 or PCIe gen 3 based - there is nothing "special" there permitting a simplified 10 GbE connector.

Which one? Can't locate any on the Mellanox store below US$ 1xx

The card must be recognised by QTS, and the drivers must match.

Thanks for your reply!
Saw it yesterday, it was in their refurbished section - 1 year warranty, 60% off, sounds like a rather good deal.
