Greetings, what do you do with the second HDMI port?

Post by porter14 »

Hi, I am Porter. I am new to nas and I just got my TS-253A. Excited about this forum that has a lot of information. :)
I really enjoy playing videos through HDMI ports to tv. then I found there are two HDMI ports.
I am not sure how to utilize the second HDMI port.
what do U guys do with it? Is there any function I am missing? like using qvr pro or vm and playing videos at the same time?

Hi, Moogle thank you for the video.
I know how to use HD station to connect to tv.
I m just not sure what I can do to leverage the second HDMI port. Seems not a must for home user.

docentt wrote:My usecase: I have 2 HDMI displays in two different rooms connected to my QNAP (lets call them room A and room B).
Everytime when I want to change room where I use HD Station (switch from room A to room B or from room B to room A) I have to go to settings and redirect sound to second HDMI output.
If you could add an option to have sound on both HDMIs at the same time, that would be great improvement and life of my family would be much simpler :-).
well someones figured out a use for it, but whether it's doable not sure

The deal breaker for me was the twin HDMI ports on the TS453A. The unit itself seems to be able to run in two states concurrently - Linux plus its own GUI for example. The setup I envisage is to have one port connected to my AV system on the other side of the room and the other straight into one of my two PC monitors. The reviewer also pointed out that there is a likelihood that several 'Internet of things' apps might appear using this second 'channel'.

We've tested other NAS systems with two HDMI ports, but the TS-x53A is the first with independent HDMI. This lets you run two applications simultaneously with video output from each. That's a great capability if you're planning to use the platform for more than just storage.
The QNAP TS-453A introduces some new features that may be useful to some users. OceanKTV will have a limited impact. The dual HDMI display with dual OS capability will have a lasting impact that developers can build on. We keep hearing about the Internet of Things revolution, but now we have a place to see firsthand if the hype grows into something worth having. Business users may want to consider the TS-453 Pro as a more focused alternative, but home users will find more features with the TS-453A.
